The bird we are examining today is the Indian Peafowl, also known as the Peacock. In scientific taxonomy, it’s referred to as Pavo cristatus.

2. Aspecto
Indian Peafowls are celebrated for their magnificent, flashy plumage. Males, in particular, showcase a radiant assortment of iridescent blue and green, accompanied by a ‘train’ of tail feathers intricately designed with eye-like spots. Peacocks are rather large birds; the males, including the train, measure 100 to 115 cm (39 to 45 in) on average, while the females range from 95 cm (37 in). With the train feathers included, a full-grown peacock may reach up to 2.12 meters (83 inches) in length. They typically weigh between 4 and 6 kg (8.8–13.2 lb).

Largely native to South Asia and Central Asia, Indian Peafowl inhabit regions of India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. You’ll also find them in the wetlands, grasslands, near water sources, and deciduous forests. They have now been introduced to other parts of the world, including the United States, Mexico, and Australia.
